Utilizing Language Interpretation in Child Abuse Interviews

Description: It is incumbent on teams and interviewers to prepare our forensic interview process to meet the needs of the child sitting before us in the interview room. This training will discuss issues of accessibility in the forensic interview process with regard to language facilitation and the use of interpreters in the forensic interview.
Learning Objectives:
1. Increase understanding of how the interviewer and multidisciplinary team can assess the needs of children requiring language interpreters (as well as non-offending caregivers).
2. An overview of considerations for prior to, during and after the forensic interview process.
3. Learn tools and strategies for utilizing interpreters in the forensic interview.
