Presenter: Dr. Alicia Pekarsky
This training will emphasize the reasons why every child who is suspected to be a victim of maltreatment should have a comprehensive medical evaluation by a healthcare professional who is experienced in this field. Some of the reasons that will be discussed include: assessing medical and emotional/mental health needs, testing for infections or other injuries, providing reassurance and documentation of evaluation findings.
Dr. Alicia Pekarsky is an Associate Professor of Pediatrics at Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, NY. She is a board certified Child Abuse Pediatrician and spends most of her clinical time in this field. Dr. Pekarsky is the Co-Medical Director of the McMahon/Ryan Child Advocacy Center in Syracuse as well as the Associate Program Director for Upstate’s Child Abuse Pediatrics fellowship. She has maintained her certification in General Pediatrics and continues to precept medical students, residents and fellows at Upstate’s outpatient pediatric center.
